This includes organising conferences, workshops, and sponsoring clinical fellowship programmes, as well as promoting collaboration and capacity building between Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area

02 Seed funding for rare disease research
Nimble and responsive to community needs, SRDC is well-positioned to help advance the understanding of the disease, and develop diagnostic tools and treatment for children with special needs

03 Community-based research
Research that addresses challenges specific to the community, focuses on generating practical, action-oriented solutions that can directly improve the lives of children

Doctor Fellowship Program
Every six months, two young orthopaedic surgeons who have just finished their orthopaedic programmes in their own country are selected to take up posts in Sandy Bay. The surgeons have been from all over the world.

Professor Lau Yu Lung oversaw a project at HKUMed which identified STAT6, a rare disorder that leads to severe eczema and many allergies.

Led by Dr. Brian Hon Yin Chung and his team, supported by funding from SRDC, crucial advances in uncovering rare diseases have been made.
