A Medical Breakthrough
Thanks to seed funding provided by SRDC, Professor Lau Yu Lung oversaw a project at University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) which identified STAT6 gain-of-function disease, a rare and severe multi-system disorder driven by exaggerated pro-allergic immune responses, resulting in severe eczema and many allergies.
HKUMed was part of an international research team of more than 90 investors discovering the disease, and they also found a drug — Dupilumab, which is a biologic that targets the STAT6 pathway for Jessie.
Jessie has responded very well to dupilumab with his eczema gone and also gained 10cm in height enabling him to integrate back into the society.
